I was out of your league
And you were 20,000 underneath the sea
Waiving affections
You were out of my league
At a distance that I didn’t wanna see
Down to the bottom
“True Affection” by The Blow

To be young. I would never go back to high school. Not to say I had a horrible, life ruining experience. I made life-long friends, had a good time, broke some rules. But never again. Luckily I don’t have to go back. I can read about it.

Anderson crafts excellent characters. For all their messed-up emotional and mental anguish, they have very likable qualities. Besides the sympathy I had for Ty, there was a strong attraction, a crush almost. I mean why not, a muscled, tanned, emotionally sensitive young man. But more importantly he has real integrity and behaves, mostly, maturely. But not without a cost. Ty has real struggles with depression and suicide. The character and the story work to show that growing up can not only suck, it’s hard too. A new pick for my Young at Heart initiative, this is definitely one adults and parents need to read. I also like that it shows the idiocy and real dangers of underage, irresponsible drinking. On top of all that, “Twisted” is as funny as it is cruel. Like growing up.
