Howdy y’all.

Yes, I’m blogging again.  It reminds of my journal, I only write when the big stuff happens.  But since I find myself with more time to contemplate life here’s to a new year and new postings.

I’m currently reading Christopher Moore’s Lamb.  Although I haven’t finished yet, it is soon to be one of my new favorite books.  I’ve read Moore’s work before and this is as funny if not more because of the subject matter.  Lamb’s subtitle is The Gospel According to Biff, Christ’s Childhood Pal.  As you can imagine it’s about Biff writing a new gospel that covers the “Lost Years” when Jesus or Joshua was unaccounted for, basically birth to 30 years old.  This book is funny while being well researched and informative.  Moore took his time researching what life was like in Nazareth in Christ’s time.  But also, it’s the story you always wanted to hear when you grow up Catholic.  That Jesus was a normal guy who got mad, made mistakes and liked girls.  Although totally fictional the story shows the what could have been Christ’s childhood and his path to Messiah-hood.  This the kind of book crazy Christians and the uber-religious warn people away from but I never understand why.  It makes me appreciate the Christian tradition I was raised in even if I no longer follow the religion.  I like thinking of Christ as a cool dude, hanging out, talking to Buhddist monks.  I love books that add knowledge to what you already know, all wrapped in a funny and sweet story.
