I love libraries. I recently had an experience with a homeless man that goes to the library and reads hours at a time without anyone bothering him. Two things about that. One, libraries are great because they are PUBLIC. They offer tremendous resources FOR FREE. Second, they are non-judgmental. Libraries exist for the community. They don't kick people out for staying too long or for not buying anything. That is why I don't think the Kindle will kill libraries.

I completely agree with you about the sense of community you get in a graduate program. Because the group is smaller and the learning more intense and discussion based, you really get a sense of people. It very much enhances the learning experience. I also agree that I miss school. I've thought about getting a PhD but I don't want to teach or publish. I think you and I are both very good at school and it feels weird to not be doing something we are good at. We will always be those people taking classes in some capacity, but I don't know if another $30,000 or so in debt is what we need =)

I found your blog through your goodreads profile, and might I say that Mrs. Gillespie would be proud. Book reviews in blogs are a great idea, and I'm happy to see what you're up to nowadays. I just wanted you to know that I'm spying from now on. Take care.

Bravo. I've always enjoyed the Caldecott more as well. I count myself as one of those yearning for the days of old Newberry winners, The Giver, etc. But I'm excited for where YA lit is going. Can't wait to hear your recommendations tomorrow!!

Sorry you felt cheated by the ending of BURNED. But I was always writing toward what might bring a young woman to the brink of a shooting rampage. Several were in the news at the time, always with men at the trigger. Only by having Pattyn lose everything could I bring her to that place. The ending was not tacked on at all.
